Rwanda has been recognised for its excellence in aviation safety and security oversight by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), an agency of the United Nations.

The ICAO recently audited eight areas of the country’s aviation sector, including the state of airports, air navigation services and aircraft suitability for safe flight, as well as the capability to investigate accidents and incidents. The results illustrated Rwanda’s aviation safety excellence with an overall result of 73.7% in terms of aviation safety controls, which is above both the African average and the global average of 67%.

These results are expected to provide a platform for the flag carrier, RwandAir, to gain eligibility to fly in North America and further in Europe, in addition to its existing routes in the UK.

In parallel to the aviation safety initiatives, the recently launched Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM) initiative aims to bolster the competitiveness of the African airline industry in the international air travel market. For improving intra-African air connectivity, the project sees the creation of a single unified air transport market in the continent.

RwandAirs’ continued record of success and expansion positions it as an excellent opportunity for pilots looking for new flying opportunities. Combined with the growing strength and capability of the overall African aviation market, RwandAir will continue to solidify its position as a growing regional and international competitor.
