3 Aviation Staffing Trends for Q2/3 2021

As we’ve reached the halfway mark of 2021, we see the aviation landscape continuing to slowly but positively evolve throughout the remainder of the year. Industry analysts remain optimistic about significantly increased leisure and business travel demand on the back of vaccine roll-out and easing travel restrictions. Our clients continue to recall staff and hire specialist roles in preparation for scaling up operations.

We're seeing the following aviation staffing trends continuing for the remainder of 2021 -

1. Flight Crew Training

Airlines globally face a unique challenge of revalidating flight crew licences and organizing refresher training for pilots who may not have flown during the pandemic. Demand for Type Rating and Synthetic Flight Examiners/Instructors is mounting as more aircraft return to service. These personnel can be engaged a short- or long-term basis, however their availability will become limited as demand increases over time.

2. Engineering & Maintenance Staffing

We are seeing high demand in certain areas of Engineering & Maintenance as aircraft are moved out of storage and MRO & CAMO operations increase. Some of our clients are putting 12-month plans in place to engage expat Engineers and to train staff to obtain new type ratings. Demand for Operations Managers, Base Managers, and experienced leaders also continue in this space.

3. Executive & Leadership Roles

Some clients are growing cognizant of the need to engage highly experience Executives to develop and execute strategies. We are seeing increasing demand for Executives who can manage complex compliance and operational issues required to scale up operations. These candidates are savvy and will wait for the right role and package before re-engaging with the potential employers. A proactive approach to 'sell' job opportunities will be required to source these candidates.

As you consider your staffing needs for the remainder of 2021 and 2022, we invite you to consider those personnel bottlenecks which may challenge your swift return to increased operations. Timing is everything to take advantage of the high-quality personnel currently available.

Our recruitment teams have been very busy connecting with these personnel and we are well placed to assist your business to fill the gaps for short term assignments or longer-term deployment to remove those bottlenecks.  Contact us on clients@rishworthaviation.com.
